This article looks at a handful (actually part of two handfuls) of digital storage-based solutions announced around the 2015 VMWorld conference. These products, some from just out of stealth start-ups, deliver several useful functions for cloud and virtual machine environments.
ClearSky Data, emerging from stealth mode, announcing the launch of its global storage network. The global storage network treats the typical enterprise data lifecycle as a full-managed service for content from cradle to grave. The company offers a hybrid (private and public cloud), three-tiered geographically distributed service with policy driven use on on-premise storage as well as off-premise storage at third party datacenter providers as well as hyperscale cloud storage providers.
All these storage systems are connected by high performance network links with a focus on reducing data access latency (advertising 100’s of thousands of IOPs with less than 2 millisecond latency) for high performance applications with a nonpersistent write-through read cache. This fully integrated storage product is available this year in Philadelphia, Boston and Las Vegas initially with expansion planned over the next few years.
